Big Book of Gardening Skills

E-mail Print PDF

This is one of my all-time favorite resources for gardening. It's an old one, but it's information is timeless.

The author(s) have done a great job of organizing the information, and somehow it's not the same old stuff you see in every other general gardening book. It's a great addition to any gardening resource library.

The Kitchen Garden Cookbook

The Kitchen Garden Cookbook

This is the companion book to one of my favorite gardening books, The Kitchen Garden. Sylvia Thompson has pulled together great recipes to bring out the flavor and true qualities of fresh-grown vegetables. It's very rewarding to bring in vegetables from the garden and whip out this book to create a homemade, home grown feast. Sylvia also weaves some gardening info throughout, along with particular varieties that are good.

Rodale's Illustrated Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening

E-mail Print PDF

Another great general compendium of gardening information. Great pictures, very diverse information. This one book could probably serve as a gardener's only resource.

Great ideas for container gardening, and hard-to-find info on Mini-vegetables.

Organic Pest & Disease Control

Organic Pest & Disease Control: How to Grow a Healthy, Problem-Free Garden by Barbara Ellis

This book is helpful in diagnosing garden problems, as well as for researching choices in organic control and prevention. The author utilizes sketches, rather than photos, to aid in identification. The sketches are very well done, with lots of detail. They show the actual size of the insect to gain perspective.
