Japanese Bunching Onions

General info on bunching onions.

Japanese bunching onions were developed from the Welsh Onion, and is a bunching onion that can be grown almost year-round and harvested either young, when they are about the size of a green onion, or when the plants have grown to the size of leeks. They are happy to tolerate poorer soil and colder weather than ordinary spring onions, and they are usually grown as annuals. (GV-145)

Also called Oriental bunching onions, they are a ubiquitous Chinese vegetable. A perennial usually grown as an annual or biennial, the plants are harvested at any stage from seedling to fully grown. They tend to be more vigorous and productive than Welsh Onions. (RIEOG-356)
